In 1950, long before technical diving was a concept, Cressi revolutionized the diving world with the introduction, along with other rubber models, of the RONDINE COMMANDO USA fins. These fins were originally designed for the U.S. Military Underwater Demolition Unit (UDT) and were widely used in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Today, the ORIGIN fins perpetuate this historical legacy by taking advantage of all of Cressi’s experience in the manufacture and design of diving fins together with the new technologies and materials available today.
ORIGIN fins are perfectly suited to the demands of technical diving due to their characteristics, abrasion and fracture resistance, in addition to a muscular design and mono-material construction, but their use has also spread among recreational divers as they provide good stability when finning, adequate power and are versatile for different types of finning.
Faithful to the original designs and patents, they offer rubber versions with positive and neutral or negative buoyancy:
- The ORIGIN HD is made from a high-density material (shore hardness 80) that is slightly negative (-165 g in salt water for size M/L) and is a genuine, extremely powerful 4x4, suitable for high-demand underwater work and for divers who value that extra weight on their feet.
- The ORIGIN LD fins are made from a neutral or slightly positive medium-density (shore 60) material (10g in size M/L in saltwater) and are significantly more effective for travel, as they offer superior responsiveness and a blade surface area/stiffness ratio designed for truly versatile use. They are fins that you hardly notice are on your feet as they are practically neutral. They are extremely stable, easy to use and absolutely versatile for all types of finning and applications, including diving schools.
They all have in common the exclusive Cressi "foot pocket under the blade" construction: Now with its angle increased by 5% (15º in total), the blade emerges directly from the top of the foot pocket, transmitting all the effort generated when finning without losing energy. This format is ideal for a relaxed fin stroke without straining the tibia or calf muscles and channels water from the ankle to the final edge of the blade, unlike traditional models in which the foot pocket has no contribution whatsoever to forward motion. In addition to improving the directionality of finning, this design provides 10% to 15% better performance than what the fin would require based on its blade surface area.
All of them ideal for enjoying excellent maneuverability.
Self-adjusting AISI 316 stainless steel spring straps are standard. Various spring sizes are available as replacements. The angled buckle keeps the spring straps in an optimal position on the heel counter. The simple pin design allows for easy strap replacement if necessary.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: A fin’s buoyancy level is independent of its weight out of the water, as it depends exclusively on the density of the materials used and their specific weights once submerged. Although we produce two different buoyancy levels, these vary depending on the fin size due to the different incidence of the spring strip’s weight relative to the fin’s own material and, obviously, depending on the density of the water in which they are used, apart from whether it is fresh or salt water, since this is not the only factor influencing its density. The negativity or positivity of a fin varies by a few tens of grams submerged and should not be overestimated above other, much more important factors such as its efficiency, versatility in different situations, finning comfort, takeoff power, or ability to maintain an adequate cruising speed while continuously finning.
